How to activate FASTag?
If you need to purchase and activate FASTag for your car, you can either physically purchase one at certain toll places across India, by carrying with you your identification and the vehicle registration documents. This is a KYC process which is mandatory. Or, and perhaps that could also be simpler— you might buy one on Amazon.in or approach some banks for the FASTags.
What is Fastag?
FASTags are toll collection prepaid rechargeable tags that allow automatic payment deduction from the FASTag. They are usually affixed to your vehicle’s windscreen. You won’t have to stop your vehicle at toll plazas to pay the toll. The toll fee will be deducted from the bank account / prepaid wallet linked to the FASTag affixed to the vehicle’s windscreen as soon as the vehicle crosses the toll plaza.
An activated FASTtag works on Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) technology. In addition, these FASTags have no expiry date, i.e. they can be used as long as they are readable at the toll plaza and are not tampered.
How can I get a free FASTag?
The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has decided to waive the FASTag cost of Rs 100 for NHAI FASTag between 15 and 29 February 2020 to further increase the digital collection of user fees via FASTag at National Highways fee plazas.
Road users can visit any authorized point-of-sale site with the vehicle’s valid certificate of registration (RC) and get a free NHAI FASTag. NHAI FASTags can be purchased from all National Highway Fee Places, Regional Transportation Offices, Common Service Centers, Transport Hubs and Petrol Pumps. To find the nearest NHAI FASTag point-of-sale locations, you can download the MyFASTag App, or visit the helpline at www.ihmcl.com or call 1033 NH.
How to buy and activate FASTag?
FASTags are provided by 24 accredited banks at National Highway toll plazas and select bank branches via various channels such as Point-of-Sale (POS). They’re also available on Amazon’s e-commerce website.
Here is how you can do it.
Self Fastag Activation:
FASTags are bank-neutral, that is, when you buy it from a POS terminal or online platform, no bank is pre-assigned to the FASTag. The online FASTag is based on the DIY (Do- It-Yourself) concept, where you can activate fastag yourself by entering vehicle details in the mobile app “My FASTag”. The My FASTag app can be downloaded from Google Play Store by Android smartphone users and the app can be downloaded from Apple Store as well.
You will then have the flexibility to connect the FASTag to any of your existing bank accounts using the My FASTag Mobile application. The prepaid wallet facility of NHAI (National Highways Authority of India) is also available in My FASTag Mobile App, where you can load money and get your toll deducted from the prepaid wallet instead of getting it directly deducted from a bank account.
Activate Fastag by visiting the certified bank branch:
By visiting the nearest certified bank branch you can also purchase FASTag and get the FASTag linked to your existing bank account.
